About Bali

GENERAL Information

Bali is an Indonesian island located at 8� 25′ 23″ S and 115� 14′ 55″ E. Bali island is the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking and music.

Bali's natural attractions include miles of sandy beaches (many are well-known amongst surfers), rice terraces, towering active pristine crater lakes, sacred caves, and exotic wildlife. volcanoes, fast flowing rivers, deep ravines,

The island's rich cultural heritage is visible everywhere - in over 20,000 temples and palaces, in many colorful festivals and ceremonies (including tooth filings and cremations), in drama, music, and dance.

 

VISA

Eleven countries and territories are eligible for a �Visa Free� facility for non-extendable 30 days.

Visitors holding valid passports from certain countries can obtain either a 7 day or 30 day non-extendable visa at any of the 15 airports and 21 seaports designated as �international gateways� by the Indonesian Immigration department. The fee for this visa, payable upon landing, is US$10 for a 7 day visa and US$25 for a 30-day visa.

Note that an airport departure tax of Rp. 150.000 applies to international destination.

 

CLIMATE

With sunshine shining throughout the year, Bali has a tropical monsoon climate, with pleasant day temperatures between 20 to 33 degrees Celsius.

Rainy season starts from October to March, when the West monsoon brings heavy showers and high humidity. June to September is considered the driest season, with low humidity and it can be fairly cold in the evenings, the best time for any outdoor activities.

 

CURRENCY

The currency used in Indonesia is the Rupiah (Rp). Exchange facilities for the main foreign currencies are available in the major business centers of Bali.

According to the Indonesian banking regulations, payment by credit cards is charged in local currency.

Some merchants apply a 3-5 percent surcharge for credit card transactions. You can cash your traveller`s cheques at the money changing booths in Sanur, Denpasar, Nusa Dua, or Ubud or in banks, but most banks accept only traveller`s cheques in US $.

 

TRANSPORTATION

There are various modes of transportation to get around Bali ranging from traditional types of transportation to the high class car. There are bicycles, bemos, public  buses, taxis, rented cars and motorcycles and cruises. However, train does not exist in Bali. Motorcycle rental prices normally rated from Rp 50,000 to Rp 90,000 per day while car rental average rate is from Rp 185,000 to Rp 425,000 a day depending on the type of the vehicle including driver .

FOOD

There are many cuisines available in Bali, from original western to oriental dishes.
Although based on original recipes, the preparation of the dishes is often adapted to the local taste and the availability of certain ingredients and the results are not always predictable.
